Detailed Information

The SL4000e is a digital two way radio from Motorola. Available for both UHF and VHF frequencies, the SL4000e offers a slim and sleek design without losing any of the durability of the bigger radios. IP54 rating means that it is not only ingress protected against dust, but can also withstand splashes of water. A full alphanumeric keypad and 5-line colour display is present on the front of the radio, alongside having 2 programmable option buttons allowing for the customization to fit the users needs.

Features Explained

Two Way Radio GPS

GPS (global positioning system) is a mechanism which a device can use a number of in-range satellites to trangulate it's position and transmit that position back to the repeater or base station. This enables the supervisor to more effectively manage team members by knowing their current location.

For more information on GPS, download this Motorola GPS information sheet.

GPS is designed for outdoor tracking. See "Indoor tracking" for indoor solutions.

GPS is a standard feature of the Motorola SL4000e.

TDMA is a technology that allows several users to share the same frequency channel by dividing the signal into different time slots. With DMR this is two time slots to every 12.5KHz frequency channel allocation. Before DMR every 12.5KHz frequency allocation could carry just one broadcast of RF traffic. Now with DMR 12.5KHz bandwidth allows two voice channels. See the video below for an explanation on how this works.

Capacity Plus

Capacity plus is a quasi-trunking solutions that uses DMR TDMA time slot technology to mimic trunking technology. Capacity Plus will automatically select an available time slot for the radio trasmission. This allows for potentially unlimited channels or talk groups. The only restriction is the amount of available time slots.

Capacity Plus is only available for re-repeater-based systems, as it's essentially a repeater licence upgrade. With a basic Capacity Plus repeater licence you get 25 radio licences included. Any Capacity Plus compatible radio will work on a Capacity Plus enabled repeater.

Linked Capacity Plus

Linked Capacity Plus is an extension of the Capacity Plus system and allows for up to 15 sites. This enables the user to potentially build a reasobably large multi-site system at relatively low cost.

For more information see our Capacity Plus page.

Capacity Plus & Linked Capacity Plus is repeater-based and is not available without a repeater.

Transmit Interrupt

Transmit interrupt is a feature that enables a high priority transmission to take priority over normal priority transmissions. For example a supervisor might want to make an important announcement to the team or call for an evacuation in the event of a incident.

Transmit Interrupt Information Video

Transmit Interrupt is a standard feature of the Motorola SL4000e.

Lone Worker Feature

Lone Worker is a feature found on many two way radios where it's able to send a pre-determined signal, for example a distress call or alarm, to other radios in range, Lone Worker requires some type of interaction from the radio user after a period of radio inactivity. An example of this is the radio can be set to require the radio operator to interact with his or her radio once every 30 minutes. If they fail to do so, their radio will start making an audible sound. If there is still no interaction with his or her radio within 1 further minute, a alarm will sound to other team members to tell them a team member is not responding to Lone Worker. The supervisor can then dispatch another team member to the non-reponsive team member's last known location to offer assistance.

Lone Worker is built-in to the Motorola SL4000e.

Bluetooth conectivity allows audio accessories to be connected to the radio wirelessly. Most manufacturers offer Bluetooth earpieces whcih are only suitable for their products. This is because they generally only want you to choose their accessories, but also because of the different ways their radios work.

Bluetooth is built-in to the Motorola SL4000e.
